Worth Sharing: There is no Advent Police

When our fourth child was stillborn in early December nearly five years ago, I could not have anticipated how much I would learn from him.

But John Blaise has indeed taught me. And probably one of the greatest lessons has been in learning my limits. Particularly, with the undercurrent of grief December can hold for me, I have learned Advent and Christmas can easily become overwhelming. So, if a “special” Advent or Christmas activity/tradition is going to stress and stretch me to the point of frustration, yelling, or tears, it isn’t worth doing. “Simple” truly is key.

Lisa-Jo Baker shares this (and the secret that there is no Advent Police) in her post “Dear Moms of Littles….” She goes on to highlight what really counts:

I think we underestimate the power of simply being present with our kids. Of being there to laugh and tickle and even yes, enjoy just one more viewing of Frozen.

Stop by her blog and read the rest. It’s worth it.

So is that hot cocoa she mentions. Totally worth it.
